It is odd how small the differences are for sure! I always wanted a pair of those Ayre MXR amps, do you still have them or have you moved on…?

I had a similar experience. A number of years ago I was using an Audio Research Ref 5 and Ayre MXR amps in my system. I sold them and then used my inexpensive backup gear which was an old Webster public address tube amp (PP 6550) and an old Yamaha c70 preamp. I was shocked that the backup gear was just about as good as the “high end gear!” Couldn’t believe it!
