The site is down temporarily. Caused by the perfect storm of the site auto payment, a credit card expiration date, a PIN # and an IT guy that has gone MIA that has the pin. It's a nightmare of red tape with the domain host. It's good they need lots of documentation to prevent theft, but the wait time between request for more info is terribly painful. Just Call 815 985 3557 during this web issue. Please share this info to help limit the damage from the internet rumor mill as needed. Thank you. 1/19/2024

Thanks Jim,
I guess I had some trouble getting emails through to you. Not sure what happened there but I would like to have the amp repaired. Can you please post details of how to get it to you.
Or we can try email again, though that seems unreliable. Or I can call if that’s convenient. Cheers.

Jim Clark

to Carl

Hi Carl,
The 2 resisters are not factory parts.
Someone has modified it.

I have concern that the power transformer may have shorted and the fuse caps were not replaced after the fuses blowing.
I’m guessing it’s all related.

It seems best to assume it will need a transformer. That is about $135 for the part.

It depends on how much you paid.

I have a trade-in 275 for sale at $ 1750 for reference.

Thanks Carl.

This was our last contact Carl. Service is no problem. I gave as much info as I could from the picture but don't know how you were given the impression we didn't want to service it. Carver products are serviced going back to the early 1970s and they are still being serviced and prized by customers. The tube amps are no different. They rarely need service but service is no problem if needed.

@Tucker, I can't say I'd read ASR for Bob Carver History of any accurate or credible source. There's a lot more to the story than what is evident in the hundreds of posts there in that "cesspool" of threads, as you called it. And, unfortunately, when good engineers tried to identify the flaws in Amir's tests, those kind technical souls were dog-piled and banned from ASR. You either agree with the cabal or get banned. There's no room for critical thinking, discussion, and test innovation at ASR.

It was really laughable when they tested and criticized a 30-year old, ebay-purchased, unrefreshed m1.5t amp (I think it was that model - I ignore ASR and never visit their site anymore) ... from the old Carver Corp., with aging capacitors, etc. Of course it resulted in more cesspool-ing.

Bob Carver's legacy solid state amps when refreshed perform excellently. Today www.BobCarverCorp.com makes a 4-product-line of great musical tube amps to meet a variety of customer-budgets that sound great and are designed to drive dynamic loads like "speakers"..., (No one I know has ever heard the sound of a "static resistor" or cares to reproduce music through a static resistor which is at the core of the tests and controversy/cesspool.)

Most people that listen to amplifiers with their "ears," to judge how they "sound" when "reproducing music" don't put much in ASR's approach to testing amplifiers. Other things ASR tests, (power cables?) ASR does test well, I suppose. But ASR has lost credibility outside of the ASR Mutual Admiration Society when it comes to amplifier testing to all those who understand dynamics and physics and ultimately use their "ears."

Bob Carver's history and legacy remain intact - anyone can and should read all about his lifetime of achievement and innovation all over the internet outside of ASR.

There's a big long cesspool controversy over on ASR forum that you might link to for a more complete version of Carver history. I do like his older legacy products. I'm not sure if this latest version of carver is going anywhere.
