It is unfortunate that the reviews do not mention the driver complements, especially for the Altecs. A Valencia equipped with the 515B Woofer and 808-8G HF driver is a whole different speaker than the same box, 811B horn and crossover using the 421 and 806 drivers, the former being for music reproduction (e.g. HiFi) and the latter, offering higher power handling and restricted bandwidth are intended for live sound reinforcement, trading bandwidth and smoothness for additional durability and output that live applications require.

Wow, you certainly put a lot of effort into your system! And you have provided me with encouragement to further explore my project with the Altec Lansing horns Identical with the ones from your Valencia's.

I do have some suggestions for you if at some time you decide to improve them further.
1, There are improved components available for the horn internals that make a significant upgrade.
2. It is my belief that Lyngdorf was extremely overly ambitious in having you cover almost 98% of your area and it resulted in a watered down compromise that any one would find troublesome. Almost all other Programs such as Audyssey always have you take measurements for your listening position only. In your case I assume that would be just you or you and your wife's seating positions. (And they have more than one room correction that you can save to your receiver/amp.)

The Klipschorn/La Scala is one of the most revealing speakers out there: good-in = good-out; crap-in = crap-out. It all boils down to the individual recording. The Altecs are less revealing than the Klipsch, which is why crap recordings sound "better" when played through them. The idea of downgrading from revealing speakers to less revealing speakers so you can enjoy substandard/crap recordings doesn't make a lot of sense to me; seems better to simply have the most efficient, revealing speakers you can while searching for the best engineered recordings you can. Why settle for less than the best in both equipment and recordings?
